Warming Ginger Syrup Recipe

I always keep fresh ginger on hand — it’s a lifesaver for upset stomachs (especially during early pregnancy!). Beyond its soothing properties, ginger root adds a delightful kick to everything from teas and cocktails to gingerbread and marinades. On its own, it’s a bit spicy, but turning it into a ginger syrup makes it both sweet and versatile. Plus, this warming root supports circulation and immunity, making it a perfect companion for chilly days.

Discover the versatility of this Ginger Syrup, a kitchen essential for both sweet and savory creations. Crafted from real ginger root, it captures the vibrant, aromatic heat of ginger in a smooth, pourable form. Ideal for elevating cocktails, glazes, marinades, or desserts — a simple yet sophisticated way to add depth and warmth to your dishes.

Ingredients

  • ⅓ cup fresh ginger root (roughly chopped)
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 cup raw honey

Directions

  1. Combine ingredients: Place the sliced ginger and water in a small saucepan and bring it to a gentle boil over medium heat.

  2. Simmer slowly: Lower the heat and let the mixture simmer for 30 to 45 minutes. Allow the liquid to reduce to about 1 cup — keeping the lid slightly ajar so some steam can escape.

  3. Strain and adjust: Remove from heat and strain out the ginger pieces. Pour the warm infusion into a heat-safe glass jar (a Mason jar works perfectly). If you have more than 1 cup, continue simmering until reduced. If it’s less, top it up with a little hot water to make 1 full cup.

  4. Sweeten: Stir in the raw honey until fully dissolved.

  5. Store: Keep your homemade ginger syrup in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks, or freeze it for longer storage.
